I’m dreaming of a pink Christmas!

When we think of Christmas, do the colours red and green always pop into your head? These days, ANY colour scheme can work including a pretty pink colour scheme which We Create used for this gorgeous Christmas shoot for Issue 3 of Celebrating Little One’s Magazine (it’s free to read HERE)

The little kids feasted on an array of desserts including donuts, macarons, mini trifles, eclairs and of course a gorgeous cake! I love the touches of rose gold and the pretty table setting!

Choosing Desserts for your next kids party

When choosing desserts for your next child’s party…how do you decide? Cake pops? Macarons? Jelly? Cookies?

I tend to mix it up each time I do a dessert table however I have found kids love cookies (as they normally come in some fun designs) and also love the novelty of a cake pop being on a stick !

Today we chat to Su from Sydney based Popolate regarding some tips on how to choose desserts and a baker for your next kids party!

  • Su, what is the most important factor when creating desserts?

This may seem strange for someone who specialises in making good-looking things, but looks are not everything for a dessert table.

Yes, we are enamoured by the beautiful pictures on Instagram but at the end of the day, they are meant to be eaten.

You eat with your eyes, but true happiness comes from that first bite of heaven! So I’d say looks and taste are equally important.

What are your customers favourite flavours?

Vanilla is the winner, hands down. It sometimes surprises me given the variety of flavours, but I guess simplicity and quality ingredients win.

  • When choosing a baker, should customers solely base their decision on the look of the designs they see online?  What else should they consider?

I think, as above, that taste and quality ingredients, and freshness are definitely factors to consider.

A soft buttery cookie that crumbles in your mouth and a hard, dry cookie can look the same when decorated and photographed but you will want to eat one and not the other.

Similarly, cake pops can look the same but taste completely different.

Mass produced cake pops (you can sometimes buy these from supermarkets) can be very gummy in texture, as they are made in the tens of thousands and go through machines to roll them.

I also think food safety is important. Glitter and gold is pretty popular these days but not all dusts are rated edible.

I do tell my clients that the super shiny effects (known as holograms or disco dusts, which typically come in bigger chunks) are not edible and I never make products with these.

On a cake, they may be removed or used as decorative elements only, but not on, say a cake pop, where they will be consumed one and all!

What have been some of your most popular dessert themes lately?

The unicorn must be the theme of the year! I’ve done multiples in cookies, cake pops and cupcake form.

My designs tend to be pretty spread out though – this is what has lead to my having hundreds (I’ve lost count) of designs in my portfolio. I actually enjoy it this way because I love a new challenge each time.

Thanks Su for sharing your tips with us!

If you’re in Sydney looking for someone to make cute cake pops and cookies for your next kids party, then head to Popolate to get in touch or to browse more of her work!

Happy planning! xx

Party Feature: ‘The Night Before Christmas’

The night before Christmas contains wonder, awe and air of excitement that isn’t matched by any other night of the year for the kids.

So I love that this Life’s Little Celebrations collaboration Christmas shoot for Issue 3 of Celebrating Little One’s Magazine by Celebrations by Alysia was focused on Christmas Eve via the “Twas the night before Christmas” theme.

In gorgeous classic Christmas colours of red and white the desserts were displayed as a true midnight feast! I love the way the backdrops were created to appear as though there was a true Christmas scene through the windows!

Everything from the customised baubles, to the intricate Christmas cake to the Night before Christmas cookie mixes and the Christmas eve themed cake toppers made the theme come alive alongside the array of desserts.

Sit back and browse the details below with all vendor details at the end of the post if you’re looking to source any of the items you see!

New Years Eve Party Trends and Supplies

As we head towards the end of the year and our minds turn to Christmas and then NYE, we thought we’d share some NYE trends and party inspiration with you thanks for Favor Lane Party Boutique who stock a gorgeous range of all things NYE! Shelley who owns Favor Lane shares her tips and party “must-have’s” for celebrating this special yearly event!

What do you see as the colour trends for NYE this year?

So far it’s looking very much like a lot of metallic for NYE this year. Gold & Black as always is popular and basically anything that shines!

We think you’ll also see a fair amount of Rose Gold this New Year’s Eve.

For someone wanting just a few decorations to spruce up a space for NYE what are the “must-have’s”

Balloons, Balloons & more balloons. They have really taken over the party scene this year. The fact that they come in all shapes, colours and sizes, means that you can tailor them to not only your theme, but more importantly, the space that you have to work with.

For example, if you are styling a small room, you can always fill a bunch of latex balloons with helium and it can be enough to jazz things up. The other option is letter balloons or word paper garlands.

Fringe curtains are also a nice choice as they’re affordable and can be used as a table backdrop, a fun entrance or photo booth backdrop. Champagne Bottle Foil Balloons are also a popular choice. They are 91cm in size so create impact at any celebration.

For someone wanting to go all-out for a NYE bash, what are the essential extras to give their party a real wow factor?

Alternately if you have a larger area to work with, there’s the option of a balloon garland (my personal favourite). Our DIY Balloon Garland Kits are so easy to assemble.

They come in a range of different colours however if you’d prefer something different, then there’s always the option of choosing your colours from our extensive collection of balloons.

Sizes range from Mini, through to jumbo round balloons and are available in solid colours or confetti filled clear balloons.

We have recently added a convenient Clear Decorating Strip to our range which comes with pre punched evenly placed holes. The purpose of the strip is to create perfectly shaped balloon garlands or arches.

The strong 2-ply polyurethane is suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Garlands can be hung from the ceiling or simply drape them over one side of your food or drinks table.

The other advice I would give is to go with disposables. These days there are so many stylish, yet affordable options available.

Your table can still look amazing without breaking the budget, and without doing dishes, yay!!

Our stunning Metallic Collection would be my first choice for NYE. The high quality plates and cups come in Gold, Silver or Rose Gold shiny foil. Team them up with  matching Metallic Foil Straws so your guests can eat, sip and party in style.  Be sure to check out our Gold Ornate Cutlery. You won’t believe that it’s plastic.

For mum’s looking to create a kid-friendly NYE gathering, what are some fab and fun party finds Favor Lane offers?

We love the idea keeping it fun and colourful for the kids. Party horns, Glow Sticks and an abundance of confetti will always be well received.  We also LOVE the idea of doing a Balloon release ‘9pm countdown’ (or age appropriate time for your little guests). Simply air inflate latex balloons with a hand pump and place into one of our Balloon Release Bags. They come complete with a pull cord and hold up to 50 balloons. Hang above your desired release space and pull the cord to shower your guests with balloons.

We also suggest setting up a kid friendly photo booth. Our Fringe Foil Curtains come in Gold, Silver or Black and make the perfect backdrop. Pop some of our photo booth stick props into a bucket or on a small table and they will provide hours of fun for the little and big kids.

Thanks to Shelley for sharing her NYE party ideas with us!

Are you feeling inspired and ready to get your NYE party planning happening? Whether you’re planning a large party or a family friendly low key event, head to Favor Lane to find some stylish party supplies to add a bit of extra sparkle to the night!
