Timeless Birthday Parties

Remember the type of birthday parties we had growing up? Parties filled with classic games like pass the parcel, musical chairs and pin the tail on the donkey?

Well today, Mardi from Party Ideas in a box is sharing some ideas for planning a birthday party with the same timeless and classic fun:

TimelessBirthdayParties_LLL_FacebookPost_March2015

“At Party Ideas in a Box , we believe that kids parties are best celebrated with fun party games and unstructured free play where children feel at home.

Party games make the party come to life and children know that games are a part of the party fun.

The best party games for children are timeless, classic games that are suitable for boys and girls, all ages, skill levels and are best enjoyed with no-pressure fun.

TimelessBirthdayParties_LLC_Facebook_March2015
Timeless party games can be played with either no props or with resources you already have in the home. Musical Statues, Simon Says, the Egg and Spoon Race or the Memory Game are perfect examples of these types of games.
Other classic party games call for more specific supplies, such as Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Our classic Pin the Tail  and contemporary Pin the Tail  versions have a different feel about them, but they are just as fun as each other!

Classic pin the tail on the donkey game

Let’s have a sack race- it is simple yet potentially challenging fun for every age group. The older children will sneak around the rules, creating such a creative element with this game. It is one of those games that children love to play again and again.

Our traditional potato hessian sack  is sturdy and strong and is perfect for both kids and grown ups. The lighter weight contemporary hessian sack version is ideal for young children to hold and jump.

The egg and spoon race is a simple relay race. Our version of the game is perfect as an allergy- friendly game and doubles as a musical shaker. Challenge the grown ups at your party to play the blindfolded version- kids will love the silliness of their parents!

Create the classic party ambience using our timeless party decorations such as balloons , streamers and windmills  . Bright, gender-neutral colours are ideal for this style of party.

Our high quality, brightly coloured fill-in invitations are ready for you to introduce your timeless birthday party to the party guests.

The classic style of party is ideal for 3-6 year old boys and girls birthday parties…or even an 11-14 year old girls birthday party (when it starts to become cool to do things when you were little!).

Celebrate your next child’s party the traditional way by playing the old party game favourites with Party Ideas in a Box

Oranges and Lemons baby shower by Lettuce & Co

Today I am delighted to share with you a unique baby shower styled by Lettuce & Co. I love that it is based around a classic nursery rhyme which is always good inspiration for a baby shower. My favourite element has to be the drinks setting on the vintage pram and the sweet cake bunting to match the rhyme!

Lisa from Lettuce & Co writes – This gorgeous baby shower took us back in time. The time the nursery rhyme was sung to us by our grandmothers to the time we were singing and dancing to the rhyme ourselves with our little friends.

There is just so much to love about it with its vintage rustic theme. Despite the nursery rhyme’s old history the vibrant colours of the oranges and lemons bring it to life, which is what we were celebrating after all, a new life! Our client didn’t know what she was having either, so these colours worked perfectly whether it was to be a boy or a girl.

The rhyme in almost its entirety (for those that had forgotten it!) hung above the old wooden table filled with orange and lemon goodness and the vintage pram was a real find and works just beautifully as the drinks station, laden with homemade lemonade and flowers.

In keeping with the themes old history but celebrating the new life, we worked the cakes and desserts around the old and the new.

orange layer cake wm

Tangy lemon curd mousse pots and layered orange cakes with buttercream topped with orange zest, ‘jam drop’ biscuits filled with orange marmalade and lemon curd and dusted with icing sugar had a real rustic feel to them, mini lemon meringues and the gorgeous citrus cake, with ruffles.

A lovingly handmade bunting by us girls with cut out children signifying the ‘oranges and lemons’ game took centre of the cake.

Pink Lemonade Party supplies

Do a search for “pink lemonade party” in google or pinterest and you will find the cutest party images ever! This is such a gorgeous theme and even if you don’t style a whole party around this theme you could always incorporate a lemonade stand into another theme you are planning.

Anna’s pink lemonade party – The Burrus Family Blog

This is the perfect party to include lovely drink dispensers, use cute mini bottles and coloured straws and bring some sunshiny yellow into your party!

Most popular colours for this party are mixing yellow with pink and/or green but for boys I would mix the yellow with grey, or blue (fantastic real party in this colour scheme under the “Real parties” section of this blog post).

You can go for a retro or vintage vibe with this party and include cute wooden crates/boxes/props for a unique look.

See my Pinterest board for this theme for some more ideas!

These ladder shelves are so fantastic for around the house and I know when I’ve used similar ones in my parties, some of my facebook readers have asked where to buy them from. They would really suit this theme I think – fill the shelves with cups/bottles etc for your lemonade stand – and of course use them around your home after the party!

You can also hire a similar ladder shelf as well as a butlers tray (along with a drink dispenser, bottles etc) from Utterly Organised Events in Melbourne.   Browse the hire category for other vendors in your location.

A butlers tray table would also look really sweet filled with some bottles. I’m not suggesting you buy this JUST for a party – they make a great little table for around the home! Or as mentioned above – hire one!

Vintage Tricycle Theme

I thought it was time to do a boys theme and one theme which I really love is that of a vintage tricycle inspired by the printables from Style Me Gorgeous. So I’ve decided to do this post on a tricycle or bicycle theme – a great theme if you want to do a classic traditional theme for a boy =)

You could combine this theme with another item as well. For example on the Style Me Gorgeous printables they are combined with a kite. Other printables combine a tricycle with other vintage toys. I also saw a vintage tricycle and ice cream party. So really anything could work and the vintage feel could tie it together.

I’ve based most of my selections on blues and brown/cream tones and vintage items however I know all of you fab blog readers of mine could make any colour work well =)

Invitations/Printables

These are the gorgeous printables which originally inspired this post! I love the colour scheme and the classic look:
