Dorothy the Dinosaur gender-neutral theme

One of Life’s Little Celebrations followers requested a ‘Dorothy the Dinosaur for a boy’ blog post! This is a difficult one since a lot of Dorothy the Dinosaur items are for girls or have pink involved.

However I’ve tried to put together some ideas here of how you could perhaps decorate for this theme – however I apologise as I couldn’t find too much!

When decorating for a party based around a particular character, you don’t need to go down the track of having the licensed character’s plates, cups, decorations etc. You can base the decorations around the colour scheme of the character or some other aspect of the character.

So I’ve based the choices for this party around green and yellow and yellow polkadots with a few Dorothy the Dinosaur items. This is an easy way to style the party while still bringing the theme out.

I have done a previous theme on a general Dinosaur theme and you could incorporate elements from this also into this party theme. You can find that blog post here.

Invitations

It was quite difficult to find Dorothy the Dinosaur invitations which had no pink! This was the only one I could source:

These bottle cap printables could be used on cups, mini bottles, gift tags or as toppers:

 

Decorations

Decorate using the main colours of green and yellow polka dots. You could also choose another colour to mix in with this colour combination (possibly red, or perhaps brown/natural tones). Just a few Dorothy the Dinosaur items can be used around the party to emphasise the theme such as this Dorothy the Dinosaur balloon:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This Dorothy the Dinosaur tail and plush toy (which both come in different sizes) could be used as decorations/props at the party as well as fun gifts for the birthday child after the party too:

 

I’d suggest having a look around the shops as well as it might be easy to find some Dorothy the Dinosaur items which you cannot find online or even things such as Dorothy the Dinosaur wrapping paper or cards which you could cut out and make some decoration items from.

Sweet Treats

For favours you could use general Dinosaur theme favours (some ideas are found in my Dinosaur theme post) or go with a musical feel such as mini musical instruments. Use a packaging option to match in with your colour scheme:

Space theme

Space, rocket, astronauts and aliens will always be popular with little men and there is a lot available for this party theme to make it easy for your party planning!

Traditional colours of blue, green, red and yellow feature commonly with this theme along with silver. You could incorporate stars into your decor as well as lanterns for an easy ‘planet’ look .

You may choose to focus on only one area of the “space” theme for the party, such as Rockets if that is what your little one is obsessed with! Or go for a full space scene incorporating aliens and astronauts.

Shark & Scuba Theme

With summer upon us, this theme is fantastic for any kids who love the beach or ocean and especially great for a pool party where you want more of a theme besides just a pool party!

You could base this party around blues and greens, along with another colour such as grey or something bright to go with a tropical feel such as red or yellow.

I have kept this post to mainly shark/scuba ideas although if you look into “Under the sea” parties online there are many more ideas out there which I’ll have to keep for another blog post!

Decorations

Being an ocean inspired theme there are many ways you could decorate for this party.

A ribbon backdrop would work well for a dessert table to give an ocean/seaweed feel in shades of blue/green ribbons. Or you could use streamers to create a seaweed effect as well. Include fish cut outs and other ocean inspired shapes hanging from the ceiling (jellyfish, seahorses etc)create the underwater feel.

The soft floaty look of pom poms would also work well into the decor for this theme:

Let the kids have some fun in a photo corner using a prop board such as this – perfect for a shark and scuba theme!

Or outside of Sydney you can buy some of these items which would be fun for any summer party in future anyway!

 

 

Create the look of the ocean floor for all the little divers with shells, corals, sea urchins, star fish and more!

Or simple ocean bath toys could be used for fun kid friendly decorations (or party favours)

Use these shell placecard holders to hold your food labels! You can’t even tell they are placecard holders so you could display them in a nice vase after the party too:

 

Use props around the party which double as birthday gifts for the shark and scuba loving birthday boy or girl. Using 2 water bottles you could create a scuba tank prop as well.

Kite Theme

Let’s go fly a kite!

This unique and fun theme is starting to become popular and after being inspired by some beautiful real Kite parties I thought it would be lovely to gather some ideas for this theme as we head into the warmer months! It’s a perfect one for all ages and can be styled for a boy or a girl. The best thing about this theme is being able to include some kite making and kite flying as part of your party which the children and parents are sure to enjoy!

You could use some simple paper kites for decorations or create a paper banner in the shape of kites as well. Another idea is to create a backdrop or decorations to resemble the tail of a kite – so tying litle bows with ribbon or tissue paper onto long hanging strings.
