Let’s face it, the first year of a baby’s life is challenging for all involved to say the least so when it comes to planning this special milestone, it is definitely worth celebrating and well to be honest, we all deserve a party!! Today Melbourne event stylist Helen from The Sugar Topped Table is sharing with us all some tips when it comes to planning this first birthday!
It all begins with choosing the perfect theme that may reflect the tiny personality already formed by your little ones. These may include a cute little princess theme for a sweet little girl or a Peter Rabbit theme for that handsome yet so cuddly little boy.
Once you’ve decided on your theme, its then much easier to work out what you are after when it come to the invitations

Why are these so important you may ask? Well they create a level of excitement & anticipation for all your guests which then leave them guessing as to what you may have planned for this special celebration.

This also helps with the design of any other stationery items you are wanting including backdrop, welcome sign, thank you tags, chocolate wrappers – the list goes on!

Creating that special celebration can be stressful at times but remember that its all about having fun!
If you’re in Melbourne and need a helping hand to plan your little one’s birthday party, head to The Sugar Topped Table to find out more about their styling services.
I can remember some pretty fun parties as a kid, with many of my favourite themes still being reinvented these days, which brings back some memories!
But if there’s one theme that I so wish I had thought of when I was 10, it’s a pamper party theme.
Perfect for double digits but just as easily adapted for younger girls, the pamper party or spa party theme is quickly becoming popular so I’ve done a quick whip around our LLC vendors to provide you with a little inspiration!
Now of course I am all about keeping things fun and age-appropriate when it comes to this theme. I think there is a way to keep this party theme light hearted and just a bit of fun for the girls without mum’s having to stress about creating a truly adult-like spa or pamper experience.

I love this glamorous take on the theme, incorporating a fashion parade at the end!
Or why not make it a slumber party, complete with individual tents and TV trays for a DIY makeover before bed?

You can use one of the hire companies on the Directory to set up a cute setting for the girls:

Invitations
Dependent on the age, your invitations and colour palette can be anything from pretty pastels, to pink and gold, or black, white and hot pink for the older girls.

Decorations
Of course every great spa has a relaxing ambience and stylish decor, so prop your room with individual foot spas, hand bowls for manicures, cute chairs, towels and flowers ready for a little TLC.
Then add pops of fun with balloons, hanging decorations and table arrangements.
A printed backdrop such as this one can be used for a dessert table or a photo backdrop:

Tableware
Rather than setting a table for a seated party, opt for a table filled with bite size sweets and savouries for the kids to nibble on in between treatments, styled with coordinated tableware.

Sweet Treats
A party wouldn’t be a party without a few sweet treats, but best make them bite size to prevent ruining wet nail polish!
I love the idea of high tea stands stacked with finger sandwiches, macarons, strawberries dipped in chocolate, and themed cookies that double as take home treats. Oh, and cake. Always cake.

Of course for those who don’t have the room at home or the time to organise it, many venues and roaming entertainment providers are now offering pamper parties as part of their theme repertoire, making them a great options for larger groups too.

Perhaps I need to relive my childhood and plan one of these myself…especially being pregnant at the moment I think I’m due for some pampering!
I hope you’ve found some great inspiration for your child’s spa pampering party.

Confetti Fair, the brainchild of Sydney mother, Claire Cassey, rides the wave of popularity for culinary brilliance and hosting prowess, offering creative party ideas and inspiration over two events in Sydney and Melbourne.
“The perfect party has made a comeback and there is an increasing appreciation for a well organised affair,” said Claire. “There are new blogs popping up every day and the number of new party businesses is quickly growing.”
“I used to spend hours and hours trawling the Internet looking at party blogs, reading online magazines and scouring through pages on Facebook when I was trying to plan a party.”
“One day I thought ‘You know what? It would be so good if I could just go to one place and choose everything I need and see how it will all look.’”
And so Confetti Fair was born. The one-day events bring together 45 exhibitors that answer all your hosting questions from amazing styling tips, delicious sweets, themes and stationery to floral arrangements, pretty décor and how to setup that perfect dessert table.
Sydney will be the first city to host Confetti Fair and people visiting can attend free demonstrations and see party setups by some of the best party stylists in Sydney.
“A good host thinks of the details; from the guests’ invites, to the delicious sweets on the dessert table, to the decor in the room and the garden, and the current trend of retro inspired fashion, homewares and attitudes means we’re not afraid to don an apron and get hands on.”
Confetti Fair is a place where seasoned and aspiring hosts can seek inspiration for their party, by finding out about the latest trends, learning traditional methods, simple solutions and all out extravagance.
Every little detail is covered at Confetti Fair, and you will leave with the confidence to put together a fabulous party of your own; an engagement party, kitchen tea, wedding reception, baby shower or a first birthday ~ it could be any type of celebration that deserves a party!
Having personally attended the last few Confetti Fair’s I can say that it is always a delight to see the amazing displays and party products! It truly is like seeing the online world of parties and desserts come alive before your eyes! Being able to actually see in person the gorgeous partyware or desserts that we often see online is not only inspiring – it makes party decisions so much easier!
Confetti Fair is being held from 10am – 4pm at Inglis Stables, Randwick on the 31st of July and from 10am – 4pm at the Nicholas Pavilion, Melbourne Showgrounds on the 28th of August. Presale tickets only $10 (includes goodie bag and special discount booklet), no door sales. www.confettifair.com.au

There is something about a styled event that leaves a lasting impression, don’t you think? Small details are discussed for months as guests recall moments from the big day, and the joy experienced by everyone in attendance seems to last that little bit longer, making it all worth it.
Baby showers are already memorable occasions as it is, but this particular one styled by LLC partner and Celebrate sponsor – Sweet Heavenly Events Hire is beyond words. Collaborating with many other talented vendors from the Life’s Little Celebrations directory for the dessert buffet, flowers, backdrop and matching sweet delicacies, we love everything about it and wish we were guests!
Using many of their own props (also for hire) and working closely with their trusted vendors, the Sweet Heavenly team created a special mint, green and white theme with splashes of silver to present what can only be described as a jaw-dropping setting for this special occasion. We’re guessing inspiration came from the incredible dining table!
Details right down to the cupcake toppers ensured a talking point at every bite, making them (almost) too good to eat. Displayed on gorgeous marble and silver cake stands (also for hire) to coordinate everything beautifully.
These chocolate pyramids even mimic the marble table which is just so subtle and so clever.
Laser cut cake toppers are proving to be a popular choice for all occasions, and this one in silver is on point perfection, sitting pretty atop a frilled two tier show stopper.
Props like this wooden rocking horse and chair (also available for hire) are perfect for the theme and give the room that extra WOW factor.
Working with a stylist like Sweet Heavenly has so many advantages, but if you have the creative flair and want to give it a go yourself, their beautiful items for hire will help get you the look you’re after and provide that stylist’s touch. I love how seamlessly this whole theme has come together, and hope it has inspired your next occasion.
